I know what you are thinking. Kool-Aid. Yes. I’m serious. I absolutely can’t stand a dirty bathroom, especially the toilet. I guess I clean the toilet a couple of times a week. I mean what can I say but I have a husband (no further explanation necessary) and we may have the occasional visitors who come over.
I’ve used Comet or as my mother calls it “Texize” and baking soda as well as bleach and Lysol toilet bowl cleaner. But I’d never tried Kool-Aid until recently. I’d heard that you could use the popular kid’s drink, but had never tried it.
So I did my research because I wanted to know what ingredients in the Kool-Aid made it clean the throne. Based on what I found it’s the citric acid that breaks down tough stains. So all you need is lemonade or orange flavored Kool-Aid.
Here’s what I did:
First I flushed the toilet to wet the sides of the bowl and sprinkled the powder into the bowl. I waited two hours and then returned. All it took was a scrub brush and voila.
Extra Tip : You can use the same packet of Lemonade flavored Kool-Aid to clean the dishwasher. Simply pour the packet into the detergent well and run a dish cycle in the empty dishwasher. It removes hard water build up and any soap scum that may have accumulated.
*Disclaimer: I didn’t quite get enough powder onto the sides of the bowl so the “rings” and grime are still present, but the basin of the toilet or trough (I don’t know what you call it) did come clean.
