As a child we always were in the car headed to the beach, the mountains to visit my uncle or what’s now known as a staycation. When I was growing up it was “we-don’t-have-much-money-so-our-out-of-town-trip-just-became-in-town.”
At any rate, no matter how far we traveled my mother always had snack bags and car activities to keep our attention more focused on fun and less focused on how far we really were from our destination.
When my sister had her two girls she always had a snack bag for them as well. In fact, our family still packs snack bags, no matter how far we plan to travel whether 2 hours or 12 hours by car or airplane.
Here are some great road trip snack ideas.
Fruit is always an easy, healthy snack to take on a road trip.
Bite sized is always the right size. Give little fingers something they can handle and make the snacks fun sized.
Airplane travel will only allow you to take 3.4 oz or 100 ml so keep it small and take the guess work out by using tiny reusable snack containers. I bought mine from the Dollar Tree.
We like dried fruit and green pea crisps that come from ALDI (Walmart has a flavored version).
Our baby girl also loves the Gerber banana flavored puff snacks. Come to think of it she likes banana flavored anything.
Below is a non-traditional snack — cucumber sandwiches and a road trip favorite — trail mix.
